360° VIDEO REFRAMING

Extract stunning conventional flat video from 360° footage. Two completely different films from a single shoot.

What is 360° Video Reframing?

Because 360° cameras capture everything in every direction simultaneously, that footage contains far more visual information than any single conventional shot ever could. Reframing is the process of extracting a conventional flat widescreen video from within that 360° footage in post production.

Think of it like a virtual camera inside the 360° sphere. You choose where to point it, what to include in the frame and how it moves. The result is a polished, professional flat video that plays on any screen, anywhere, with no trace of the 360° format visible to the viewer.

Major broadcasters including the BBC already use this technique regularly, extracting conventional news footage from 360° cameras deployed at events and locations. The advantages are significant. One camera captures every angle simultaneously. No shot is ever missed. And the creative decisions can be made in the edit suite rather than on location.

Who is This Service For?

If you're commissioning a new 360° film Reframing makes an excellent add-on to any new 360° production. Once your 360° film is complete, the same footage can be reframed to create a conventional flat version for TV, social media, digital signage or any standard screen. Two completely different finished films from a single shoot, for a fraction of the cost of filming twice.

If you already have 360° footage You don't need to commission a new film to benefit from reframing. If you have existing 360° footage sitting on a hard drive, whether shot recently or years ago, I can reframe it into conventional flat video. Many clients are sitting on genuinely valuable 360° content they've never been able to use on standard screens. Reframing unlocks that content and gives it a second life.

How it Works

The process starts with understanding how you want the finished flat video to look and feel. From there I work through the 360° footage, selecting the best angles, composing each shot within the spherical environment and building the edit as if directing a conventional film in post production.

Camera movements, pans, tilts and zooms can all be added during the reframing process, creating dynamic conventional footage from what was originally a static 360° camera. The finished film is then rendered in the correct format for your intended platform, whether that's broadcast, social media, YouTube or digital signage.

Why It Adds Real Value

Most screens in the world cannot display 360° video natively. TVs, digital signage, cinema screens and standard monitors all require conventional flat video. Reframing bridges that gap, making your 360° content accessible to every audience on every screen without shooting anything twice.

For brands and organisations who have invested in 360° video production, reframing significantly extends the value of that investment. The same production budget effectively delivers two finished films instead of one.
